The Prophetic: Prophets, Manifestations and Gifts

Part 2 - Manifestations: The Forms of Prophecy

By Yashah Ben-Y'shua & Shabar Ben-Yehudah

The prophetic word is and has always been an extremely important part of true ministry.
A genuine prophetic voice is simply not an option, but absolutely essential to the perfecting
of the saints. As it is written, "Surely YHWH Elohim (the Lord God) will do nothing, but He
reveals His secrets to His servants the prophets."

Although the variety of ways in which the prophetic gifts manifest are infinite, there are
differing fundamental types and forms of prophecy that can be broken down into seven
over-arching categories:
  • Conditional
  • Judgmental
  • Revelatory
  • Inspirational
  • Messianic
  • Radical
  • Apocalyptic
The following is a set of brief explanations and examples for each of these seven basic
forms:

I. Conditional Prophecy

This very basic form of prophecy holds forth a promise from YHWH, the fulfillment of which
is based upon one's obedience; as opposed to unconditional prophecies that are or have
been fulfilled irrespective of the actions of the saint(s).

Here are some scriptural examples of this form:

Moshe (Moses)
And it shall come to pass, if you shall hearken diligently unto the voice of YHWH yourElohim,
to observe and to do all his commandments which I command you this day, that YHWH your
Elohim will set you on high above all nations of the earth:… but it shall come to pass, if you
will not pay heed to the voice of YHWH your Elohim, to observe to do all his commandments
and his statutes which I command you this day, that all these curses shall come upon you,
and overtake you… (Debarim [Deuteronomy] 28).

YeshaYahu (Isaiah)
If you be willing and obedient, you shall eat the good of the land: But if you refuse and rebel,
you shall be devoured with the sword: for the mouth of YHWH hath spoken it. (YeshaYahu
(Isaiah) 1:19-20).

Y'shua ('Jesus')
Then said Y'shua to those of Yehudah (Jews) which believed on him, If you continue in my
word, then are you are my disciples indeed; And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall
make you free. (Yehochanan [John] 8:31-32).

II. Judgmental Prophecy

This often despised and yet critical form prophecy provides correction, admonition and even
chastisement - and contrary to the current prevailing winds of doctrine is an absolute
necessity, even in this hour, to fully round out the perfection of the saints in love. It also
serves as a key tool in leading the guilty to repentance and the fallen to restoration.

Scriptural examples:

Sh'muel (Samuel)
And Sh'muel (Samuel) said to Shaul (Saul), You have done foolishly; you have not kept the
commandment of YHWH your Elohim, which he commanded you: for now would YHWH
have established your kingdom upon Israel for ever. But now your kingdom shall not
continue: YHWH has sought him a man after his own heart, and YHWH has commanded him
to be captain over his people, because you have not kept that which YHWH commanded you.
(1 Sh'muel [1 Samuel] 13:13- 4).

YeshaYahu (Isaiah)
For the people turn not unto him that smites them, neither do they seek YHWH of hosts.
Therefore YHWH will cut off from Israel head and tail, branch and rush, in one day. The aged
and honorable, he is the head; and the prophet that teaches lies, he is the tail. For the
leaders of this people cause them to err; and they that are led of them are destroyed.
Therefore YHWH shall have no joy in their young men, neither shall have mercy on their
fatherless and widows: for every one is a hypocrite and an evildoer, and every mouth speaks
folly. For all this His anger is not turned away, but His hand is stretched out still.
(YeshaYahu [Isaiah] 9:13-17).

Y'shua ['Jesus']
And when He had come near, He beheld the city, and wept over it, saying, If you had known,
even you, at least in this your day, the things which belong to your peace! But now they are
hidden from your eyes. For the days shall come upon you, that your enemies shall cast a
trench about you, and encompass you around, and keep you in on every side, and shall lay
you even with the ground, and you children within you; and they shall not leave in you one
stone upon another; because you knew not the time of your visitation. (Luke 19:41-44).

III. Revelatory Prophecy

This popular area of prophecy imparts knowledge of future events or circumstances that not
only provide steering and direction for the saints, but builds and sustains patience, and
inspires hope through the inevitable testing and trials that precede the season of divine
harvest.

Scriptural examples:

Abraham
And he said unto Abram, Know of a surety that your seed shall be a stranger in a land that is
not theirs, and shall serve them; and they shall afflict them four hundred years; And also
that nation, whom they shall serve, will I judge: and afterward shall they come out with
great substance. (Bereshith [Genesis] 15:13-14).

Yoel (Joel)
And it shall come to pass afterward, that I will pour out my spirit upon all flesh; and your
sons and your daughters shall prophesy, your old men shall dream dreams, your young men
shall see visions: (Yoel [Joel] 2:28).

Paul
And said unto them, Sirs, I perceive that this voyage will be with hurt and much damage, not
only of the lading and ship, but also of our lives. (Acts 27:10).

IV. Inspirational Prophecy

Beyond enlivening and refreshing one's spirit, inspirational prophecies strengthen one's faith,
as well as provide much needed comfort and encouragement.

Scriptural examples:

Moshe (Moses)
And Moses said unto the people, Fear not, stand still, and see the salvation of YHWH, which
he will show you to day: for the Egyptians whom you have seen today, you shall see them
again no more, forever. YHWH shall fight for you, and you shall hold your peace. (Shemot
[Exodus] 14:13-14).

Chaggai (Haggai)
Yet now be strong, O Zerubbabel, says YHWH; and be strong, O Yehoshua (Joshua), son of
Yehotsadak (Josedech), the high priest; and be strong, all you people of the land, says
YHWH, and work: for I am with you, says YHWH of hosts: According to the word that I
covenanted with you when you came out of Egypt, so My Spirit remains among you: fear
not. For thus says YHWH of hosts; Yet once, it is a little while, and I will shake the heavens,
and the earth, and the sea, and the dry land; And I will shake all nations, and the desire of
all nations shall come: and I will fill this house with glory, says YHWH of hosts. The silver is
mine, and the gold is mine, says YHWH of hosts. The glory of this latter house shall be
greater than of the former, says YHWH of hosts: and in this place will I give peace, says
YHWH of hosts. (Chaggai [Haggai] 2:4-9).

Paul
And now I exhort you to be of good cheer: for there shall be no loss of any man’s life among
you, but of the ship. (Acts 27:22).

V. Messianic prophecy

This all-important form of prophecy simply serves to reveal and glorify the true Messiah.
Even Y'shua Himself studied the Messianic prophecies to come to the fullness of revelation
concerning His purpose and mission on earth.

Scriptural examples:

YeshaYahu (Isaiah)
Therefore YHWH Himself shall give you a sign; Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a
son, and shall call his name Immanuel (YeshaYahu [Isaiah] 7:14).

Hoshea (Hosea)
When Yisrael (Israel) was a child, then I loved him, and called my son out of Egypt (Hoshea
[Hosea] 11:1).

Y'shua ['Jesus']
The Son of man must suffer many things, and be rejected of the elders and chief priests and
scribes, and be slain, and be raised the third day. (Luke 9:22).

VI. Radical Prophecy

Radical prophecies and radical actions by prophets are often necessary to awaken the
remnant out of chronically sinful conditions, spiritual lethargy or complacency - to gain such
people’s attention.

Scriptural examples:

YeshaYahu (Isaiah)
At the same time, YHWH spoke by YeshaYahu Ben-Amotz (Isaiah the son of Amoz), saying,
Go and loose the sackcloth from off your loins, and put off your shoes from your feet. And
he did so, walking naked and barefoot. And YHWH said, like as my servant YeshaYahu
(Isaiah) has walked naked and barefoot three years for a sign and wonder upon Egypt and
upon Ethiopia; So shall the King of Assyria lead away the Egyptians prisoners, and the
Ethiopians captives, young and old, naked and barefoot, even their buttocks uncovered, to
the shame of Egypt. (YeshaYahu [Isaiah] 20:2-4).

Hoshea (Hosea)
The beginning of the word of YHWH by Hoshea (Hosea). And YHWH said to Hoshea, Go, take
unto yourself a wife of whoredoms and children of whoredoms: for the land has committed
great whoredom, departing from YHWH. (Hoshea (Hosea) 1:2).

Y'shua ['Jesus']
Then Y'shua said unto them, Truly, truly, I say to you, except you eat the flesh of the Son of
man, and drink His blood, you have no life in you. Whoever eats My flesh, and drinks My
blood, has eternal life; and I will raise him up at the last day. For My flesh is meat indeed,
and My blood is drink indeed. He that eats My flesh, and drinks My blood, dwells in Me, and I
in him. As the living Father has sent Me, and I live by the Father: so he that eats Me, even
he shall live by Me. This is that bread which came down from heaven: not as your fathers
did eat manna, and are dead: he that eats of this bread shall live for ever. (Yehochanan
[John] 6:53-58).

VII. Apocalyptic Prophecy

Apocalyptic or eschatological prophecies concern events that pertain to the end-times or
'latter days' - the culmination of the rule of the Gentiles. More than simply providing
stimulating spiritual debate and speculation, these prophecies, like all foretelling, are intended
to provide hope and inspiration to endure.

Scriptural examples:

Daniel
Daniel spoke and said, I saw in my vision by night, and, behold, the four winds of the heaven
strove upon the great sea… (Daniel 7, 10-12).

Yechezkel (Ezekiel)
And I will send a fire on Magog, and among them that dwell carelessly in the isles: and they
shall know that I am YHWH. So will I make my holy name known in the midst of my people
Israel; and I will not let them pollute my holy name any more: and the heathen shall know
that I am YHWH, the Holy One in Israel. (Yechezkel [Ezekiel] 39:6-7).

Yehochanan (John)
The Revelation of Y'shua HaMashiach ('Jesus Christ'), which YHWH gave unto him, to show
unto his servants things which must shortly come to pass; and He sent and signified it by
His angel unto His servant Yehochanan (John): Who bore record of the word of YHWH, and
of the testimony of Y'shua HaMashiach, and of all things that he saw. Blessed is he that
reads, and they that hear the words of this prophecy, and keep those things which are
written therein: for the time is at hand. (Revelation 1:1-3).

Finally my brethren, it is written, "Believe in YHWH your Elohim, so shall you be established;
believe his prophets, so shall you prosper" (2 Divrei HaYamim [2 Chronicles] 20:20).

That which is written has now become the 'logos' or letter of the word. The spoken or
'rhema' word is that which speaks specifically to current circumstances or conditions.

Hear O Israel - the prophecies we read in scripture are documentations of prophetic
utterances by the Hebrew prophets of Israel; but in truth, and without fear of contradiction,
the prophetic utterances of His true prophets of this hour are just as needed, and in some
ways, carry as much weight as those of scripture...

The commonwealth of Israel as a whole must finally come to realize that prophetic
utterances of a TRUE prophet, even in this final hour, are not merely suggestions or advice -
they reveal the very mind of YAH!
